Makin' Meringue

We made meringue cookies last week and it was fun and easy so I thought I'd share the recipe in case you're looking for an indoor activity to do with your kids....we always are! :)

4 large egg whites at room temp
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
pinch of salt
3/4 c. sugar
Food coloring

Preheat oven to 200. Line cookie sheets with aluminum foil. Beat egg whites with electric mixer until foamy. Add cream of tartar and salt. Beat on high until mixture forms soft peaks. Add sugar, by tablespoonfuls, and continue beating until thick and glossy. Tint with food coloring (can divide for different colors). Spoon into a ziplock bag (cut off corner) or a pastry bag (I used my Pampered Chef Easy Accent Decorator) and pipe whatever shapes or letters onto prepared cookie sheets. Bake one hour, then turn off oven and let cool and dry inside for at least two more hours. Store in airtight container.

The waiting is the hardest part. :)
Enjoy! :)
